Choosing the best home protection: Home Watch services vs. house sitters. Why professional Home Watch is the smarter choice for most homeowners.
Deciding how to protect your home during a vacation, business trip, or extended absence can be tough. Should you hire a house sitter or a Home Watch professional? Both options aim to keep your property safe, but key differences make professional Home Watch services the smarter choice for most homeowners.
A house sitter is someone, often a friend, neighbor, or hired individual, who stays in your home while you're away. Their tasks might include pet care, watering plants, collecting mail, and maintaining basic operations. While they may provide some security, house sitters often lack formal training, licensing, or insurance to handle damage or loss. Reliability can also be an issue: how do you know they're trustworthy, not snooping, or even present? Plus, they rarely provide detailed updates on your home's condition.
A Home Watch professional is a trained, insured expert who regularly inspects and maintains your property while you're gone. Certified by groups like the National Home Watch Association (NHWA), they're skilled at spotting issues, like leaks or security risks, before they escalate. Background-checked and bonded, they follow a strict Code of Ethics, offering peace of mind. With a network of trusted contractors, they can also manage repairs efficiently.
Your Home Watch pro visits on a set schedule, delivering detailed reports after each check. This proactive approach catches problems early, saving you time and money.
From checking HVAC systems to securing pipes and replacing bulbs, regular maintenance keeps your home in top shape. You'll rest easy knowing a professional is your on-site advocate.
Broken pipe? Power outage? A Home Watch expert acts quickly, contacting repair services or first responders, to minimize damage and protect your property.
Locks, windows, and doors are checked routinely for tampering or risks, adding a reliable layer of protection beyond what a house sitter offers.
Home Watch professionals bring specialized skills in property care and security. Expertise most house sitters lack.
With connections to plumbers, electricians, and more, they ensure fast, quality fixes when issues arise.
Unlike house sitters, who may require long-term stays and vary in dependability, Timberline Properties Home Watch services tailor inspections to your schedule and needs in Park County, Colorado.
For homeowners seeking reliable, expert protection, professional Home Watch services outshine house sitters. With regular inspections, trained oversight, and emergency readiness, they deliver peace of mind and real results.

In May 2024, the Park County Board of County Commissioners launched a review of the Short-Term Rental Ordinance. They are looking into changes in total allowable STR licenses, fee reassessments, and regulations around the STR community.
The first part of the County Commissioner's review is a survey taking a poll of public opinion of short-term rentals' impact on the Park County community. The survey's rhetoric is largely negative towards STRs and paints them in a negative light without discussing the positives that STRs have brought to the county.
In an attempt to highlight some of the attributes STRs are bringing to the community, we are HIGHLY RECOMMENDING participating in the community survey to ensure the voices of our STR community get heard.
The survey will ask for specific examples of the benefits STRs have added to the community. To make it easier, we've provided some statistics for you to use:
The second part of the County Commissioner's review are the public hearings. The full schedule can be found here. Every meeting takes place from 5-7pm:
