Park County Short Term Rental Community Updates - September 2024
In May 2024, the Park County Board of County Commissioners launched a review of the Short-Term Rental Ordinance. They are looking into changes in total allowable STR licenses, fee reassessments, and regulations around the STR community.
Part 1 of the County Commissioner’s review is the survey taking a poll of public opinion of short-term rentals’ impact on the Park County community. The survey’s rhetoric is largely negative towards STRs and paints them in a negative light without discussing the positives that STRs have brought to the county.
In an attempt to highlight some of the attributes STRs are bringing to the community, we are HIGHLY RECOMMENDING participating in the survey (linked HERE (https://parkco-parkcountyco.app.transform.civicplus.com/forms/42739.) ) to ensure the voices of our STR community get heard.
The survey will ask for specific examples of the benefits STRs have added to the community. To make it easier, we’ve provided some statistics for you to use below.
1- STRs generate roughly $153,940 in revenue for the county every year in license renewal fees alone.
2- Other counties in Colorado that have pursued strict STR regulations in an attempt to stop single-family housing stock from appreciating have failed. Denver and Douglass County had some of the strictest STR regulations in the state, yet both had the highest appreciation on single family homes over the last several years.
3- Colorado tourism is not dying down (3.8% increase in spending and 3.6% increase in travel volume since 2022). Park County should be looking for ways to bring in more tourism so our County can continue to flourish, and we don’t miss out on those crucial tourism dollars that will help improve our community for both travelers and those that live here full time.
Part 2 of the County Commissioner’s review are the public hearings taking place over the next two months. The schedule can be found HERE (https://www.parkcountyco.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1093) , and the list of dates and locations are below. Every meeting will be taking place from 5-7pm and we STRONGLY encourage you to participate in these meetings.
